You must be ordinarily resident at the address at which you want to register and aged 18 years or over on polling day in order to vote. If you are on the register and have moved address recently, you may apply to get on the supplement to the register at your new address.

The right to vote is as follows:

Irish and British Citizens can vote at the general election.

There is currently an Orange Weather warning in place affecting County Laois from 8.00am to 3.00pm today Monday 13th January.

It is anticipated that wind speeds in County Laois will be at their peak between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Laois County Council requests that members of the public exercise caution during this period.

The Laois Dog Pound/Shelter will be closed from Wednesday, 25^th December to Friday, 27^th December 2019 (inclusive) and will be open on Saturday, 28^th December 2019 and Monday, 30th December 2019 between 10.00 am and 12.30 pm for the public to bring in stray or reclaim and rehome dogs.  The Dog Pound will also be closed on Tuesday, 31^st December 2019 and Wednesday 1^st January 2020.  The Laois Dog Pound/Shelter will re-open as normal on Thursday, 2nd January 2020 – 10.00 am to 12.30 pm.

Laois County Council is currently preparing a new Corporate Plan in respect of the period 2019 – 2024.

The Corporate Plan sets out the core values of the organisation, the strategic aims and objectives and the supporting strategies for the implementation of same.

A copy of the current Plan is available for viewing here. 

Laois County Council wishes to invite submissions from interested parties in relation to the draft Plan. Submissions should be made in writing to the Director of Corporate Affairs, Laois County Council, Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise, Co. Laois to be received no later than 12 noon on Monday 21^st October 2019.
