    In accordance with Part XI, Section 179 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 as amended, and Part VIII, Article 80 & 81 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 as amended, Laois County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to carry out the following development:

    Safety scheme at Irishtown, Mountmellick Co. Laois
    • To construct a roundabout at the junction of the N80 and L6131 at Irishtown.
    • To include for the provision of car-parking spaces, Pedestrian crossing facilities and kerbed edge islands.
    • To construct Footpath and ancillary works in relation to design of roundabout.

    Draft Local Area Plans Published

    Draft Local Area Plans have been prepared for Portlaoise, Mountmellick and Portarlington (with Offaly County Council). The Draft Plans are on Public Display between 21st March and 8th May 2018, and submissions are invited during this time.

     

    The Portlaoise and Mountmellick Draft Local Area Plans can be viewed during normal opening hours at:

    Portlaoise Library, Dunamaise House, Lyster Square, Kylekiproe, Portlaoise, Co. Laois;

    Submissions or observations regarding the Draft LAPs and the associated reports are invited from the public and interested bodies. Children, or groups or associations representing the interests of children, are entitled to make submissions or observations. Written submissions or observations made on or before 4pm 8th May 2018, will be taken into consideration before the making of the Local Area Plans.

    All submissions will form a part of the statutory Chief Executive’s report to be presented to the elected members of Laois County Council and in the case of the Portarlington Joint Local Area Plan to the Edenderry Municipal District of Offaly County council.

     

    The planning process is an open and public one, therefore all submissions/observations are a matter of public record and will be available for public viewing, and they may also be placed on the County Councils’ websites. Please include your name and contact details on a separate sheet to the content of your submission.

She grew up in Germany near the old Fairy Tale Road where the Brothers Grimm collected tales like Hansel and Gretel and Sleeping Beauty. It is fair to say that she knows her deep, dark woods!

  • Streets of Portlaoise 5k Road Race – 17th March 2018

    Laois County Council hereby serves notice that temporary rolling traffic restrictions will be in force on Saturday 17th March 2018 to facilitate the “Streets of Portlaoise 5k Road Race”.

    The restrictions will be in effect between 10.30 hrs and 12.00 hrs approx to facilitate a road race.

    Routes affected include the R445 Mountrath Road (from Rockview Roundabout), Main Street, Ridge Road, Greenmill Lane, a section of the N80, Harpur’s Lane & Portlaoise Orbital Route.

    Race Marshals with the assistance of An Garda Siochana, will restrict the traffic as the athletes approach the routes. We would appreciate the co-operation of motorists to ensure the safety of all.

     

     

  • New Launch date of Exhibition at Laois Arthouse

    PORTRÁIDÍ ÓIR AGUS PORTRÁIDÍ EILE’

    To celebrate the launch of Bliain na Gaeilge and Seachtain na Gaeilge, the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, Co Laois, will host Portráidí Óir agus Portraidí eile by Pádraig Ó Flannabhra from the Wednesday 21st March at 1.30pm.  The exhibition will be launched by by poet and writer in Residence for Kerry County Council  Annemarie Ní Churráin.  All wecome to attend.  For more info visit the Arthouse website http://www.arthouse.ie/  The exhibition runs from 3rd to Friday 6th April (extended) 2018 in the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, Co Laois.
