  • RETAINED FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT

    Laois County Council Fire Service are currently seeking applications for retained fire fighters across all stations.

    The work of a Retained Fire Fighter is so different to most jobs. One minute you are going about your normal day, then the pager bleeps and within a few minutes you find yourself dealing with an emergency situation.

    As a Fire Fighter you will serve your community in an exciting, dynamic and fulfilling role with structured time off and a minimum annual salary of €18,050 in Year 1.

    Retained Fire-fighters are called upon to tackle a wide range of emergency situations where problem-solving skills and initiative will be vital to resolve issues quickly and calmly. Incidents vary from tackling fires and rescuing people, to dealing with chemical spillages and road traffic collisions. There are certain personal attributes that you will need to help you fulfil your role as a Fire-fighter. They include confidence, resilience, adaptability, effective communication skills, integrity and a commitment to diversity.

    Laois County Council – Notice of the Annual Rate on Valuation for 2024

     

    Notice of the Annual Rate on Valuation under section 4(1) of the Local Government Rates and other Matters Act 2019 (as amended).

     

    Laois County Council hereby gives notice that the Annual Rate on Valuation for the Financial Year ending 31st December 2024 in respect of relevant properties situated in the administrative area of Laois County Council is set at €0.2217.

    In accordance with the Local Government Rates and other Matters Act 2019 (as amended), several changes are taking place that will affect Rate Accounts for 2024. The most significant are:

    • Commercial Rates are now due from 1st January and are payable as a single charge. However, the Council will continue to accept monthly payments on request. If you wish to avail of the Standing Order facility or wish to enter a payment plan please contact the Rates Office to discuss at 057 8689367. Alternatively, you can register on MyCoCo.ie for access to your Rates Demands, account balance and to make payments. Contact the Rates Office to assist with any registration queries.
    • All amendments to the Valuation List will now be effective immediately (i.e., revisions, additions, removals and appeals).
    • There will now be provision for pro-rata liability and billing where occupation ends and begins mid-year.
    • By way of advance notice and in accordance with new legislation, interest charges will be applicable from 1st January 2026 on unpaid 2025 Commercial Rates bills. Further information on this will be provided in due course.
    • Under Section 11 of the Above Act, Laois County Council must be informed of any change of owner/occupier of a premises. Failure to do so may result in a Class A Fine.

    A Draft Carlow-Graiguecullen Joint Urban Local Area Plan 2024-2030 has been prepared. Submissions or observations are hereby invited from the public and interested bodies between 13th December 2023 to 5th February 2024 inclusive.

  • Callout for Artists’ Studios, Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, Co Laois.

    Callout for Artists’ Studios, Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, Co Laois.

    The Laois Arthouse is seeking applications from professional artists working in any artform for subsidised studios from March 2024.

    The studios are private working spaces. They can be accessed seven days a week. Each studio is equipped with a desk, chair, electrical points, natural and artificial light, sink and storage. Wifi and electricity is covered in the studio agreement.

    The studios are available for 3 months minimum to one year, which can be extended at the discretion of the County Council. The studio fee is €250 per month, payable in advance along with a  €200 deposit

    The Laois Arthouse contains a gallery, a kiln, five studios and two residential apartments. Workshops, tours and classes for children, adults and professional artists are hosted at the Laois Arthouse as well as events throughout the year. The public library is located to the front of the building in which the Laois Arthouse is situated.

    There are facilities attractive to artists located nearby, including Mc Keon Stone, the foremost limestone yard in Ireland, which has a history of supporting sculptors, the Malthouse, a privately owned facility where several annual cultural events are held and the Cosby estate, where the renowned Electric Picnic music and arts festival is held annually.

    • A cover letter outlining whin you would like a studio at the Laois Arthouse
    • Artists‘s biography
    • Documentation of previous work
    • Closing date for the receipt of completed applications is Thursday 22th February 2024 at 5.00pm.

    Information Session: Laois County Council Arts Service will host two information sessions on upcoming grants, studios and funding opportunities in 2024.

    The Laois Dog Pound/Shelter will be closed from Saturday, 23rd December to Wednesday, 27th December 2023 (inclusive) and on Sunday, 31st December 2023 to Monday, 1st January, 2024 (inclusive). The Dog Pound/Shelter will be open on Thursday, 28th December, Friday, 29th December and Saturday 30th December, 2023 between 10.00 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. for the public to bring in stray, reclaim or rehome dogs. The Laois Dog Pound/Shelter will re-open as normal on Tuesday, 2nd January, 2024.

    Always remember to keep your dog under effectual control and accompanied at all times in a public place. Ensure your dog has a microchip & certificate of ownership and a current/valid licence, available at all post offices or online at: www.licences.ie
