LEGO FILM PROJECT IN LAOIS LIBRARIES

Could your son or daughter be the next Steven Spielberg? Laois Libraries will be running LEGO Animation Workshops in some of their Libraries this year.

This is an award winning joint venture between Abbeyleix & Durrow Libraries. During the course of the year both libraries will be running LEGO Animation classes for ages 10 and up. This is aimed at anyone between the ages of 10-18.

Following on from the success of the LEGO Club in Abbeyleix and Durrow, the Animation Project is looking to take it even further and encouraging older children and teenagers to get involved.

The ethos of the project is to get pre-teens and teenagers to become creators and not just consumers of media content. To develop their social skills and their social networks. To use their smartphone, tablet & laptop constructively.

LEGO is not just about having blocks; it’s about building meanings together. It’s a social process.

It doesn’t really matter what you are making; what’s important is that you are making something that is meaningful to yourself or others around you. This sharing is the act of building personal connections.

The project will allow participants to draw on both the technical and creative sides of themselves. During the course of the project, the participants will plan, script, shoot, do voice work and produce their own LEGO movies.

These dramatic activities are crucial to their development because through stories and drama, they develop better understanding of themselves and the world around them. Creative writing encourages them to exercise their creative minds and gives them the opportunity to assert themselves. These developments can really strengthen their self-confidence. and help them find their voice.

LEGO can be combined in an almost infinite amount of combinations and there would often be more than one solution to a problem or an issue. This divergent problem solving play may prepare one to think creatively and become more effective problem solvers.

To tell their story, whatever it may be.

So like any film project, we need writers, voice actors, artists, designers and LEGO builders.

So if you think you have someone who might be interested in this project and would like  to take on one of these roles, please contact us at lllanimationstudios@gmail.com or call Abbeyleix or Durrow library.
