    The Motor Tax & Cash Office will close at 1 p.m. on Friday 22nd December, 2017. These public counters will re-open from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. on Thursday 28th December 2017.  On Friday 29th December 2017, the Motor Tax and Cash Office will be closed to the public at 12 noon.  The Motor Tax and Cash Office will also be closed on Monday 1st January 2018 and business will resume as normal (9.30am to 3.30pm) from Tuesday, 2nd January 2018.

    TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF CARPARK AND ENTRANCE ON TIMAHOE ROAD, PORTLAOISE

    NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Laois County Council intends to close the car park and gateway entrance to Pairc an Phobail, Timahoe Road, Portlaoise in order to facilitate the reinstatement and resurfacing works by ESB Networks.

    It is intended to close the car park and gateway entrance for a period of 3 days from Monday 4/12/17 – Wednesday 6/12/17 (dates inclusive).

  • New Exhibition at Laois Arthouse

    The Laois Arthouse Gallery, Stradbally presents ‘Heart’ a new exhibition of photographs. Comprising of a vibrant and unique collection of photographs created by dance artist Erica Pessanha Borges and photographer Terry Conroy.  The beauty and richness of some of County Laois Heritage sites form the backdrop to the dance forms captured in this collection of photographs.  The exhibition will be officially launched on Tuesday 12th December at 7.30pm by Jazmin Chiodi of Iseli-Chiodi Dance Company. Exhibition runs until 26th January 2018

     

  • Flooding Update From Laois County Council

    PRESS RELEASE AT 16.00 – 30th NOVEMBER 2017 – LAOIS COUNTY COUNCIL

    Laois County Council wish to advise that the Humanitarian Aid Centre which has moved to the Civic Offices/Library, O’ Moore Street, Mountmellick will be available to those affected by the recent flooding and the opening hours are as follows:

    Friday, 1st December 10am to 3pm
    Saturday, 2nd December 10am to 12pm
    Monday, 4th December 10am to 3pm
    Tuesday, 5th December 10am to 3pm
    Wednesday, 6th December 10am to 3pm
    Thursday, 7th December 10am to 3pm
    Friday, 8th December 10am to 3pm

    Anyone who requires support including emergency housing, dealing with the aftermath at their properties or any other humanitarian need can call to the centre or ring 057-8664000 to speak to a member of staff.

    In addition, below is a summary of the support schemes available to those affected by recent flooding.

    Humanitarian Assistance Scheme
    The Humanitarian Assistance Scheme, administered by the Department of Social Protection, is available to assist people whose homes are damaged by flooding and who are not in a position to meet costs for essential needs, household items and in some instances structural repair.

    Assistance to Small Businesses, Community, Voluntary and Sporting Bodies
    Defence Minister, Paul Kehoe, announced a humanitarian scheme to provide emergency assistance for small businesses (up to 20 employees), sports clubs and community organisations unable to secure flood insurance, which have been affected by flooding. This scheme is being administered by the Irish Red Cross and details can be accessed at https://www.redcross.ie/news-and-events/laois-humanitarian-support-scheme/
